EgyptAir has confirmed that reports circulating on social media and various media platforms regarding a spike in ticket prices for return flights from Gulf countries to Cairo are inaccurate. The company stated that these reports provide a false representation of the national carrier’s policies during the exceptional circumstances currently affecting the region.

The airline clarified that, as part of its national role and responsibility toward Egyptians stranded abroad, it has implemented an operational plan to facilitate their return following the cancellation of their original bookings from several Gulf nations. This plan includes operating daily exceptional flights to various destinations.

EgyptAir emphasized that the number of flights currently operating is limited, in accordance with the directives of civil aviation authorities in the relevant countries and the ongoing regional situation.

Priority for Existing Bookings

The company noted that these flights focus primarily on transporting passengers who already hold valid bookings on EgyptAir. These passengers are being accommodated without any additional fees or burdens to ensure their swift return home. Priority is given to this group, which accounts for the vast majority of available seats.

Furthermore, the airline has introduced several measures to ease the burden on travelers, including the waiver of ticket change penalties during this period. These steps reflect EgyptAir’s commitment to supporting its customers and facilitating their travel under the current conditions.

Limited seat availability and operating costs

The airline clarified that the number of seats available for new purchase on these flights is extremely limited, not exceeding 5% of total capacity. These seats are priced according to market rates in comparison with other Egyptian and foreign carriers.

This pricing is a result of unexpected increases in insurance costs related to operational risks in areas of geopolitical tension, classified as high-risk zones. The fact that EgyptAir bears the cost of the outbound legs of these flights, which depart without passengers.

EgyptAir reaffirmed that it remains the national arm of the Egyptian state during times of crisis, continuing its mission to serve Egyptians at home and abroad according to the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency.
