Minister of Social Solidarity Maya Morsy met on Tuesday with Country Director of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in Egypt Rawad El-Halaby and her accompanying delegation.
The meeting discussed ways to strengthen co-operation in several areas, including maternal and child nutrition under the First 1,000 Days of a Child’s Life programme.
Morsy reviewed the ministry’s social protection efforts, including the “Takaful and Karama” conditional cash transfer programme for mothers with children from birth to six years of age.
Morsy also highlighted the ministry’s experience in providing meals, as well as the launch of the “Ahl El-Kheir” platform and “Al-Mahrousa Restaurant”, which have achieved a broad and sustainable impact through an extensive network of partners, including civil society organisations, voluntary initiatives and individual contributors.
The minister also outlined the Strategic Financial Ecosystem for Economic Empowerment, which targets vulnerable groups capable of working and seeks to promote financial inclusion among the most disadvantaged.
The ecosystem currently involves 56 partner entities from ministries, state institutions, the private sector and civil society.
Morsy also reviewed the objectives of the “Ezra’ initiative”, describing it as a pioneering model of strategic partnership between the government and civil society.
The initiative aims to support Egyptian farmers, create job opportunities and improve living standards in rural areas by empowering vulnerable families, young people and rural women to establish productive agricultural projects.
For her part, WFP Country Director in Egypt Rawad El-Halaby praised the remarkable co-operation with the Ministry of Social Solidarity, particularly under the First 1,000 Days of a Child’s Life programme and women’s economic empowerment projects implemented in partnership with the General Social Solidarity Institution.
She expressed her interest in expanding co-operation with the ministry across various areas of work in a way that benefits the targeted groups.
