President Abdel Fattah El Sisi has affirmed that Egypt welcomes the intensification of co-operation with Malaysia at various international fora and the consolidation of bilateral co-operation, especially in the economic, trade and joint investments domains.
Such an attitude, the president said, comes in pursuance of Egypt’s consistent policy of openness to joint co-operation, construction and development with all parties within a framework of the principles and values of
mutual respect and for the sake of the interests of peoples and future generations.
The president’s remarks came as he conferred Sunday with visiting Malaysian Foreign Minister Hisham muddin Tun Hussein, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said. Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukri attended the meeting.
For his part, the Malaysian foreign minister stressed the interest that Malaysia is paying to the strengthening of bilateral relations with Egypt in all fields especially in light of the remarkable developmental boom and the giant national projects that Egypt has launched in recent years, Spokesman Radi said.
The Malaysia foreign minister also noted the pioneering role Egypt is undertaking at both regional and international levels, making special reference in this regard to Egypt’s effective role in combating terrorism and realising security, stability and peace in the Middle East. Discussions during the meeting covered regional and international issues of common interest, especially including terrorism-combating given that terrorism is one of the most important challenges that the world is facing. In this connection, the Malaysian foreign minister praised the efforts made by Egypt to combat terrorism at both domestic and regional levels and to confront extremist thought and ideologies.
He also highlighted the leading role played by Al-Azhar, hailing it as the Islamic world’s lighthouse and representative of the correct Islamic teachings.
