Egypt’s Minister of Civil Aviation Sameh El-Hefny met on Wednesday Venezuelan Ambassador to Cairo Wilmer Omar Barientos to discuss prospects for cooperation in civil aviation and a number of issues of mutual interest.

The meeting covered the latest developments in a proposed air transport agreement between Egypt and Venezuela and the steps needed to complete it.

The agreement is expected to establish a regulatory framework to support air traffic and improve connectivity between the two countries.

El-Hefny stressed the ministry’s readiness to provide the necessary support and coordination to Venezuelan airlines in accordance with applicable regulations, helping facilitate their operations and create opportunities for direct flights between the two countries.

He said stronger air links could also support travel, tourism and trade between Egypt and Venezuela.

The minister also expressed his condolences to the Venezuelan government and people over the victims of the earthquake that struck the country.

For his part, Barientos expressed appreciation for Egypt’s warm reception and stressed Venezuela’s interest in further developing bilateral relations.

He said Venezuela plans to boost tourism and strengthen ties with Middle Eastern countries in the coming period.

He highlighted the importance of developing air transport to increase travel and open new opportunities for air connectivity and cooperation with Egypt.
