Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk met on Tuesday with Uzbekistan’s Ambassador to Egypt Mansurbek Kilichev to discuss ways to strengthen agricultural and investment co-operation.
The meeting also addressed efforts to support the private sector and encourage investors from both countries to establish joint projects across various agricultural fields.
Farouk underscored the depth of relations and broad areas of co-operation between the two countries, stressing Egypt’s keenness to provide all forms of technical support and share its agricultural expertise with Uzbekistan, particularly in land reclamation, water resources management and livestock development.
Such co-operation, he said, would serve the mutual interests of both countries and support their food security efforts.
The meeting also discussed arrangements for a high-level Uzbek delegation to visit Egypt in the second half of September. The aim of the visit is to familiarise the delegation with Egypt’s experience in managing livestock production farms in recently reclaimed land and explore ways to draw on this experience in developing Uzbekistan’s vast desert areas.
Farouk directed the ministry’s Foreign Agricultural Relations Department to make extensive preparations for a roundtable bringing together Egyptian and Uzbek businessmen and investors to explore opportunities for joint investment.
