Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty held a phone call Saturday with Massad Boulos, a senior adviser to US President Donald Trump on Arab and African affairs, to discuss bilateral relations and developments in Sudan and Libya, Egypt’s foreign ministry said.
The two officials discussed ways to strengthen the “strategic partnership” between Egypt and the United States, including economic, trade and investment cooperation, the ministry said in a statement.
On Sudan, Abdelatty stressed the need to build on ongoing efforts to halt the conflict and ensure unimpeded humanitarian aid deliveries. He reiterated Egypt’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the preservation of its national institutions.
Abdelatty also rejected foreign interference that could prolong or complicate the crisis, calling for an inclusive political process led and owned by Sudanese parties.
Regarding Libya, the two sides discussed efforts to advance the political process and end the country’s political division. Abdelatty said Egypt supported Libya’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as the unity of its state institutions.
He stressed that the political process should remain entirely Libyan-led and said holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously was essential to restoring stability.
