Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS) said it was monitoring foreign media coverage of the incident at Damietta port and was contacting foreign correspondents to provide them with accurate and verified information.
The SIS urged media outlets, news agencies and foreign journalists to rely on authorised official sources and to ensure accuracy and professionalism in their reporting on the incident and Egyptian affairs more broadly.
It said investigations were still under way to determine the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible.
The SIS also called for coverage to reflect the facts accurately, citing international interest in developments at the port, and stressed the importance of obtaining information about the incident from official Egyptian authorities.
