Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly met on Thursday with UNESCO Director-General Khaled El-Enany in New York, on the sidelines of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, where Madbouly is representing President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Madbouly welcomed El-Enany, expressing Egypt’s pride in having an Egyptian with extensive scientific and executive experience leading the international organisation.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s continued support, saying El-Enany’s success would represent a success for Egypt, Africa, the Arab world and the Global South.
The prime minister highlighted promising prospects for strengthening cooperation between Egypt and UNESCO in education, culture, science, technology transfer and artificial intelligence (AI), as well as efforts to preserve cultural heritage.
Such co-operation, he said, would support the national priorities of member states and their efforts to achieve comprehensive development.
Madbouly also praised El-Enany’s efforts to advance his vision for administrative reform and restructuring at UNESCO.
El-Enany, for his part, expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s continued confidence and support.
He highlighted Egypt’s important role as an active partner in advancing UNESCO’s agenda and praised its efforts in education, culture and science.
The UNESCO chief outlined his priorities for the coming period, focusing on strengthening the organisation’s ability to respond to global challenges, particularly amid rising geopolitical tensions and armed conflicts and their impact on education, culture, science and media.
He also presented proposed areas of co-operation to support joint projects with Egypt.
