Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati met on Monday with Jean Arnault, the Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Middle East, during Arnault’s regional tour. The talks highlighted Egypt’s diplomatic role in promoting de-escalation and regional stability.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khalaf said the minister congratulated Arnault on his appointment, expressing readiness to cooperate in reducing tensions and fostering security and prosperity. The meeting addressed Egypt’s mediation efforts between the United States and Iran, aimed at achieving understandings that could lead to a ceasefire and broader stability.
Abdel-Aati warned of the conflict’s impact on global trade, food security, energy supplies, and freedom of navigation, stressing the urgency of ending hostilities. He voiced support for a second round of U.S.–Iran negotiations to consolidate ceasefire arrangements, emphasizing that dialogue remains the only path to resolving disputes.
Arnault praised Egypt’s diplomatic initiatives and reaffirmed the UN’s support for Cairo’s efforts to restore peace and stability. Both sides agreed to continue coordination and consultation on developments affecting security in the Middle East.
