Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke by phone on Tuesday with UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband. Abdelatty conveyed President Abdel Fattah El‑Sisi’s congratulations to Prime Minister Andy Burnham and congratulated Miliband on assuming office, expressing hope to deepen Egyptian‑British cooperation.

Minister Abdelatty emphasised strengthening economic, trade and investment relations, building on momentum from the third Egypt‑UK Association Council in June. He highlighted the importance of boosting Egyptian exports to the UK and encouraging more British investment.

The ministers also discussed regional and international developments. They agreed to maintain close consultation to support stability and political solutions. On Gaza, they underscored the need to implement peace commitments, with Abdelatty condemning Israeli violations in the West Bank and Gaza. On Iran, they stressed diplomatic engagement to avoid escalation, noting risks to energy security and global trade.

Abdelatty reviewed Egypt’s efforts to contain the Sudan crisis, reaffirming support for Sudan’s unity and institutions, and called for safe humanitarian access and a Sudanese‑owned political process. He also addressed water security and the Horn of Africa, reiterating Egypt’s rejection of unilateral measures affecting Nile Basin states and stressing regional stability.

For his part, Miliband praised Egypt’s role in promoting Middle East stability and affirmed the UK’s commitment to strengthening ties and coordination with Cairo.
