Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, met with the British Ambassador to Cairo, Mark Bryson-Richardson, to explore ways of strengthening co-operation in renewable energy, modernising power grids and advancing energy storage systems.
The talks, held at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Capital, focused on attracting new investments and expanding the role of British companies in Egypt’s energy sector.
Esmat welcomed the ambassador and praised the depth of relations between Egypt and the United Kingdom. He highlighted the importance of creating new opportunities for British firms in clean energy and renewable projects, in line with Egypt’s national energy strategy.
He pointed to ongoing efforts to localise the manufacture of electrical equipment for solar and wind power, reinforce the unified grid and develop battery-based storage projects. The minister reiterated Egypt’s target of raising the share of renewables in the energy mix to 45 per cent by 2028.
He stressed the value of British expertise in solar projects to supply remote areas, as well as in training programmes and knowledge exchange.
Esmat underlined the government’s reliance on the private sector to deliver projects under the national energy strategy, noting that Egypt’s abundant solar and wind resources provide a strong foundation for investment.
