Egypt’s Minister of Industry, Khaled Hashem, held talks on Thursday with the United Kingdom Ambassador to Cairo, Mark Bryson, and his accompanying delegation to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral industrial co-operation and expanding British investment in Egypt.

Discussions covered a range of priority sectors, including automotive manufacturing, electric vehicle batteries, pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, green manufacturing, export-oriented industries, as well as technology transfer and localisation in key strategic fields.

At the outset, Minister Hashem underscored the longstanding and robust Egyptian–British relations, expressing Egypt’s aspiration to further deepen co-operation.

He highlighted the presence of leading British companies in Egypt’s industrial sector and encouraged further investment, noting Egypt’s position as a regional industrial hub and a gateway to African markets.

He also stressed the importance of building on successful British business experiences in Egypt to achieve mutual economic benefits, the Industry ministry said in a statement.

The minister reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to maintaining open and constructive dialogue with British stakeholders to address challenges and facilitate operations.

He welcomed proposals from the British Embassy to support investors and emphasised the importance of strengthening links between British companies and Egyptian institutions, including the Federation of Egyptian Industries and the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, to enhance local supply chains.

The meeting featured a discussion of the green infrastructure and the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism within Egypt’s decarbonisation efforts, alongside potential joint projects to reduce emissions and enhance industrial sustainability. Co-operation in medical waste recycling was also explored.

Minister Hashem highlighted priority sectors for investment, notably automotive manufacturing under the National Automotive Industry Development Programme, as well as pharmaceuticals and medical research.

Ambassador Bryson reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to deepening ties with Egypt, noting its position as a key regional partner and a major destination for British investment, with growing interest in green economy initiatives and sustainable finance.
