Egypts Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Aati, met Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni in Kampala on Friday on the sidelines of the Second Extraordinary Summit of Troop-Contributing Countries to the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).

Abdel-Aati conveyed warm greetings from President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to Museveni and reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to strengthening its long-standing strategic partnership with Uganda.

Highlighting the growing momentum in bilateral relations, the Egyptian foreign minister cited an increase in high-level exchanges, including President El-Sisi’s official visit to Kampala in May.

In response, President Museveni asked Abdel-Aati to pass on his personal greetings to President El-Sisi, praising the Egyptian leaders ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability across Africa and the Middle East.

Museveni also underscored Ugandas strong interest in expanding multifaceted cooperation with Egypt.

During the meeting, Abdel-Aati called for deeper economic, trade, and investment ties, specifically pointing to key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, mining, agriculture, water resources management, and pharmaceuticals.

He highlighted ongoing initiatives to expand the Egyptian Medical Centre in Jinja and formally invited President Museveni to attend both the African Union Coordination Summit, which Egypt will host on October 4, and the accompanying African Business Forum.

On the critical issue of water security, Abdel-Aati stressed the necessity of cooperation among Nile Basin nations to achieve shared benefits.

He called for a return to consensus within the Nile Basin Initiative and firmly rejected unilateral actions in the Eastern Nile Basin.

Furthermore, he commended Ugandas constructive role in fostering dialogue and supporting development projects aligned with international law.

They also exchanged views on pressing regional developments, concentrating on the crises in Sudan, Somalia, and the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

Both sides agreed to enhance bilateral coordination to safeguard peace, stability, and sustainable development across the continent.
