In a significant diplomatic endeavor aimed at strengthening educational ties, Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education, Ayman Ashour, welcomed on Tuesday Erol Özvar, the Turkish President of the Council of Higher Education, for a high-level meeting in the New Administrative Capital.

The discussions centered on enhancing cooperation in higher education and scientific research, following the recent signing of a cooperation agreement during President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s visit to Ankara on September 4 with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to foster academic collaboration and exchange. A key highlight was the preliminary agreement to establish a Turkish-Egyptian university in Cairo, a move poised to enrich educational landscapes and provide students with diverse learning opportunities.

They also discussed strategic vision for cooperation in research, with a particular focus on prioritising the exchange of academics and researchers in the fields of health and engineering. This initiative aims to leverage the expertise of both countries, promoting innovation and development in these critical sectors.

Further cementing the bilateral educational ties, Türkiye has pledged to offer scholarships to Egyptian students at both undergraduate and graduate levels.

Additionally, Turkish professors and academics are set to contribute to approximately 20 Turkish departments across Egyptian universities, enhancing the academic milieu with cross-cultural perspectives and expertise.

The establishment of an Egyptology department in Turkey was also evaluated, reflecting a shared interest in cultural and historical studies that bind the two nations.

Özvar extended an invitation to Ashour to visit Turkey, which the Egyptian Minister accepted with enthusiasm, signalling a continued commitment to nurturing the educational partnership.

Earlier, Özvar and his delegation took the opportunity to visit the iconic Giza Pyramids, experiencing firsthand the rich cultural heritage of Egypt.
