Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptians Abroad, Badr Abdel-Aati, underscored the urgent need to de-escalate regional tensions during a phone call with Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on Friday.

Abdel-Aati prioritized diplomatic and political solutions to contain the current crisis, warning of the serious consequences of continued military escalation. The call is part of ongoing consultations between Cairo and Ankara to strengthen bilateral ties and coordinate on pressing regional issues, including the situation in Sudan.

The two ministers reviewed the rapidly evolving regional landscape amid what they described as a dangerous escalation, exchanging assessments on the widening scope of tensions.

They stressed that continued violence risks triggering severe repercussions for regional and international peace and security, underscoring the importance of intensifying diplomatic efforts to prevent further deterioration.

Regarding Sudan, Abdel-Aati reaffirmed Egypt’s firm position on the need to preserve Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. He stressed the importance of supporting Sudanese national institutions and rejecting any attempts to place them on equal footing with armed militias.

Both ministers emphasised the urgency of advancing de-escalation efforts and creating favourable conditions for the resumption of a comprehensive and inclusive political process in Sudan, aimed at restoring stability and safeguarding the country’s future.
