Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aati met his Tunisian counterpart, Mohamed Ali Nafti, on the sidelines of a ministerial meeting on Jerusalem in Amman, Egypt’s foreign ministry said.

The ministers praised the special nature of relations between Egypt and Tunisia, as well as their longstanding historical and popular ties. They also welcomed progress in bilateral cooperation and reviewed the outcome of the 18th session of the Egyptian-Tunisian Joint Higher Committee, held in Cairo last September.

They stressed the need to follow up on the committee’s decisions and build on agreements aimed at boosting economic, trade and investment cooperation.

Abdel-Aati briefed Nafti on Egypt’s diplomatic efforts with regional and international parties to de-escalate tensions and contain crises in the region.

He reiterated Egypt’s call for an immediate halt to military operations, the prioritisation of political and diplomatic solutions, and greater Arab coordination to preserve regional security and stability.

On Gaza, the ministers discussed the latest developments, with Abdel-Aati stressing the need to implement all elements of the US president’s peace plan for the enclave, including completing its first phase, ensuring full, safe and sustained access for humanitarian aid, and securing an Israeli withdrawal.

He also underlined the importance of moving towards early recovery and reconstruction programmes in Gaza.

On Libya, Abdel-Aati praised the outcome of a meeting of foreign ministers from the three-country mechanism of Libya’s neighbours, hosted by Cairo on May 21.

He called for regular meetings of the mechanism to coordinate the positions of neighbouring states and support Libya’s unity, sovereignty, territorial integrity and national institutions.
