Egypt, Tunisia confer on executive environmental programme to be inked before COP27

Egyptian Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad conferred with her Tunisian counterpart Leila Chikhaoui Mehdaoui on items related to the executive environmental programme of the higher Egyptian-Tunisian committee that will be inked before COP27 to determine the final version of the programme’s agreement and the schedule for its activities.

This came on the sidelines of the 18th session of the African Ministerial Conference on the Environment (AMCEN) in Senegal, according to a press release by the Environment Ministry on Saturday.

The meeting tackled the items related to the Egyptian-Tunisian executive program which includes cooperation in the field of handling dangerous and solid waste, integrated coastal management, protection of the marine environment, boosting sustainable production and consumption, green and circular economy, integrated management of air quality and detection of pollutants, nature reserves, biological diversity, environmental tourism and environmental legislation.

Fouad reviewed Egyptian efforts exerted in the fields of waste management, biological diversity preservation and environmental tourism.

She also pointed out to the efforts exerted in Egypt to transform Sharm El Sheikh into an eco-friendly green city.

She urged the Tunisian side to participate in launching the Africa waste 50 Initiative to present the pioneering Tunisian experiment in the field of waste management and share expertise with the African countries.

Meanwhile, Mehdaoui proposed implementing a partnership agreement between the Tunisian environment institutions and their Egyptian peers in the fields of waste management in addition to programmes and projects between Egypt and Tunisia in the domains of environmental tourism and benefiting from the Egyptian experiment in coastal management especially in handling marine waste.
