Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Sherif Fathy stressed on Monday that Egypt remains a safe and stable destination, noting that ongoing regional and geopolitical developments have not affected inbound tourism.

Fathy made the remark during a meeting of the Tourism and Civil Aviation Committee at the House of Representatives, where he outlined the ministry’s upcoming strategy to promote Egypt and strengthen its global tourism standing.

The strategy centres on showcasing the diversity of Egypt’s tourism products under the slogan “Egypt… Unmatched Diversity,” with a focus on consistent promotion across international markets.

Efforts are under way to develop and integrate tourism products to create comprehensive visitor experiences, while maximising economic returns for local communities and enhancing tourism-related economic security, the minister said.

To boost investment, Fathy announced a proposed “Investment Opportunities Bank” to present projects in an organised manner, streamline licensing procedures, regulate fees, and activate a one-stop-shop system at the ministry. Approval timelines are also set to be shortened.

Financing initiatives have received 244 applications worth around LE16 billion, expected to add approximately 160,000 new hotel rooms to meet targeted tourist flows, the minister noted.

He also addressed regulation of the new holiday apartments system, emphasising compliance with safety, security, and hygiene standards to safeguard service quality and Egypt’s reputation.

On human capacity building, Fathy said around 15,000 trainees have been trained in co-operation with the private sector, including the Egyptian Tourism Federation.

The ministry has also launched the “EGTAP” platform offering specialised local and international training programmes.

Regarding sustainability, he noted that 44 per cent of hotels apply green practices, while several diving centres have obtained Green Fins certification. Electric transport has also been introduced in the Gisa Pyramids area to enhance the visitor experience and protect the environment.

Fathy further reviewed developments at the Grand Egyptian Museum and its daily visitor rates, alongside measures to regulate visits and visitor behaviour.
