Egypt is stepping up preparations to host three major African events in New Alamein from October 2 to 4, Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty said.
He stressed their importance in boosting African coordination, economic integration and development.
The events include the Alamein Africa Forum, the Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) founding countries, and the eighth African Union Mid-Year Coordination Meeting.
Abdelatty made the remarks during a meeting on Sunday with senior Foreign Ministry officials to review preparations for hosting the three events.
The minister was briefed on the latest organisational and substantive preparations. These include meeting and session programmes, as well as logistical, protocol and media arrangements.
He instructed all relevant Foreign Ministry sectors and national authorities to maintain close coordination to ensure the events are held to a standard that reflects Egypt’s role and standing in supporting joint African action.
Abdelatty stressed the need to build on the opportunities provided by the events to strengthen coordination among African countries and advance economic integration and development.
He also called for mobilising resources and building partnerships to implement the continent’s priorities and achieve practical and tangible outcomes that support development and stability in Africa.
The minister stressed the importance of closely monitoring all arrangements during the final stage of preparations.
He said the efforts should reflect Egypt’s commitment to playing an active role in boosting African co-operation and advancing the continent’s development and integration agenda.
