The 11th international conference of the General Secretariat for Fatwa Authorities Worldwide will examine the impact of sweeping global changes on families, values and identity, organisers said.
The conference, titled “Family Challenges Amidst Major Transformations: A Fatwa Approach to Protecting the Family, Envisioning its Future, and Preserving Identity” will be held on September 2-3, 2026, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Scholars, muftis and researchers from 80 countries are expected to attend the event, which will explore ways for religious institutions to address emerging family and social challenges.
Among the issues on the agenda is modern individualism and its impact on patterns of thought, behaviour and social relations.
Participants will discuss how growing individualistic attitudes affect the concept of family and shared responsibility, while seeking a balance between personal autonomy and solidarity within families and communities.
The conference will also address what organisers describe as “digital alienation”, examining how technology and online spaces are reshaping human relationships, communication and feelings of belonging.
Sessions will consider ways to promote responsible technology use, preserve family and social ties and limit the effects of isolation and social disconnection.
Other discussions will focus on belonging and coexistence, including the role of families, religious institutions, schools and cultural organisations in strengthening citizenship, dialogue and mutual respect.
The conference will further examine social, cultural, economic and technological changes affecting family stability, marital relations and child-rearing.
Organisers said the meeting aims to develop an integrated religious approach to protecting the family and preserving its identity, combining Islamic scholarship with human, social and other disciplines to produce practical responses to contemporary challenges.
