Minister of Youth and Sports, Gawher Nabil, witnessed the signing of an agreement officially confirming Egypt as the host of the 2028 Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships for seniors and juniors, marking the first time the event will be held in Africa.

The minister emphasised that Egypt’s historic hosting of the championship reflects the “wise vision and foresight of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi,” noting that strategic planning initiated over the past ten years has enabled the country to develop the capacities and investments required to stage major international sporting events.

During the signing ceremony, Minister Nabil highlighted that Egypt does more than organise sporting competitions; it also showcases its civilisational and cultural heritage to the world through visiting delegations. He cited the ongoing Artistic Gymnastics World Cup in Egypt, attended by 37 countries, where participants experience both security and the nation’s rich cultural and touristic landmarks, including the Egyptian Museum.

“The true message of Egypt reaches the world through our guests and foreign delegations, who share their experiences here,” he added. He also expressed gratitude to Morinari Watanabe, President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), for his continuous support and fruitful cooperation with Egypt.

Minister Nabil further revealed Egypt’s ambitions to host between 75 and 80 countries for the 2028 championship and announced plans to establish a monthly calendar of sporting events throughout the year across various disciplines, benefiting both the sports and tourism sectors. The minister reaffirmed that Egypt will always remain “a country of safety and security.”

For his part, FIG President Morinari Watanabe praised the strong relationship between the federation and Egypt, which has grown steadily since the country began hosting Gymnastics World Cups six years ago. He also expressed admiration for the tangible progress and development Egypt has achieved in recent years.
