Egypt’s Ambassador to Italy and Head of the Egyptian delegation Bassam Radi has affirmed that the current international moment and the unprecedented international support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people present a historic opportunity to achieve the two-state solution.

He also stressed that the international community and major powers must seize this opportunity, which has come at the cost of decades of Palestinian suffering and the devastating consequences of the recent war in Gaza.

Radi made the remarks during the International Conference of the Two-State Solution Alliance in Rome, attended by the foreign ministers of Italy, Saudi Arabia and Palestine, alongside representatives of the Arab League and its member states.

During the conference, Ambassador Radi reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of any form of displacement of Palestinians from the occupied Palestinian territories under any pretext.

He noted that, since October 7, 2023, Egypt has maintained a humanitarian corridor through which around one million tonnes of humanitarian aid, including food, medical supplies and relief materials, have entered Gaza.

He added, however, that the humanitarian situation remains extremely critical due to repeated Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement.

Radi also highlighted Egypt’s medical response, noting that more than 150,000 Palestinians requiring treatment, together with their families, have been evacuated from Gaza to Egyptian hospitals and temporary field hospitals.

In co-operation with the World Food Programme, Egypt also helped avert the risk of severe famine in 2025 and contributed to providing food assistance to around 1.6 million Palestinians, including approximately 400,000 of the most vulnerable.

The Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution was established in 2024 at the initiative of Saudi Arabia, Norway and the European Union, with Egypt and Jordan among its leading Arab members.

It is working to develop practical principles and proposals for implementing the two-state solution, reflected in the New York Declaration adopted by the international conference on the peaceful settlement of the Palestinian issue.
