Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Eissa received on Sunday Second Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Kingdom of Thailand Lertsak Pattanachaikul, and his accompanying delegation, to discuss ways of strengthening Egyptian-Thai relations and expanding bilateral co-operation.
Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Hany Azer, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to Cairo Thanawat Sirikul, and Assistant Foreign Minister for Asian Affairs Ambassador Amr Hamza were present at the meeting.
The discussions focused on advancing co-operation across economic, investment, parliamentary and educational fields, including measures to increase bilateral trade, attract Thai investment and expand economic ties.
Welcoming the Thai delegation, the deputy prime minister highlighted the longstanding friendship and distinguished relations between Egypt and Thailand, noting the positive momentum in bilateral ties.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to deepening cooperation in the economic, industrial, educational and cultural sectors.
The deputy prime minister also emphasised Egypt’s efforts to strengthen its investment climate through incentives and facilitation for investors.
He highlighted the country’s strategic location as a gateway to Arab, African and global markets, its network of free trade agreements, and major infrastructure development, particularly in transport and energy.
These advantages, he noted, enhance Egypt’s competitiveness and enable companies to use the country as a manufacturing and export base.
For his part, the Second Deputy Speaker expressed appreciation for the strong bilateral relationship and affirmed Thailand’s interest in expanding co-operation in economic, investment, trade, educational and parliamentary fields.
He highlighted Thai companies’ interest in expanding their presence in Egypt, welcomed continued support for Thai students, and called for more high-level reciprocal visits.
He also expressed interest in strengthening direct air connectivity to promote tourism, trade and investment and deepen people-to-people ties.
The two sides agreed on the importance of building on the current positive momentum to expand economic, investment and trade cooperation, increase mutual trade and investment, advance shared interests, and further strengthen the bonds of friendship between Egypt and Thailand and their peoples.
