Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Chairman Vice Admiral Osama Rabie received on Monday a high-level Thai delegation led by Second Deputy Speaker of Thailand’s House of Representatives, Lertsak Patanachaikul, at the authority’s headquarters in Ismailia.

The meeting, held during Patanachaikul’s official visit to Egypt, discussed potential areas of co-operation and ways to strengthen bilateral ties and exchange expertise.

Rabie said the Suez Canal continues to serve as a key link between East and West and supports the stability and sustainability of global supply chains despite regional challenges.

He highlighted major development projects in the Canal Zone, supported by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and efforts to diversify the canal’s sources of national income.

Rabie also noted that the SCA has localised the production of various marine units to meet the needs of the canal and Egyptian ports, while creating opportunities for exports.

The SCA has also introduced new maritime services, including ship maintenance and repair, marine rescue and ambulance services, pollution control and waste collection, Rabie added.

Patanachaikul said he was pleased to visit the Suez Canal for the first time and expressed interest in expanding economic cooperation.

He praised the SCA’s role in maintaining global supply chains and managing maritime crises.

He also expressed interest in benefiting from the SCA’s expertise in dredging and training.

Thai Ambassador to Egypt Thanawat Sirikul said co-operation could also expand into maritime and cultural tourism. Rabie concluded by confirming the SCA’s readiness to launch training cooperation through the Suez Canal Maritime Training and Simulation Academy.
