Egypt’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hindy stressed that the ministry is making strenuous efforts to accelerate the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI), expand digital infrastructure, develop data centres and cloud computing, and build specialised digital skills.

The minister made these remarks during his meeting on Tuesday with members of the Digital Transformation Committee at the American Chamber of Commerce in Cairo (AmCham) to discuss the ministry’s priorities for the next phase and ways to create a more attractive investment environment for the ICT sector.

Hindi said the ministry’s strategy is built on five pillars: digital transformation, technology localisation and job creation, digital infrastructure, digital capacity building, and legislation and governance.

He noted that the Digital Egypt platform currently offers 242 government services, with plans to increase these services to 270 by the end of 2026 and reach around 450 by 2030. The ministry is also expanding the use of digital identity and electronic signatures while continuing to automate government services to improve efficiency and the business environment.

According to the minister, digital outsourcing exports reached $5.2 billion in 2025 and are expected to grow to $8 billion by 2028. Annual mobile phone production increased from 3 million units in 2024 to 10 million by the end of 2025, with a target of reaching 30 million by 2028 while raising local content to 45%.

The ICT sector grew by 20.3% in the third quarter of the previous fiscal year, contributing 6% to GDP.

AmCham members reaffirmed their commitment to partnering with the ministry to advance Egypt’s digital transformation agenda.
