These remarks by Egyptian Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, who is also acting Minister of Health, came in his address to a conference late Tuesday organised by the American University in Cairo (AUC) for discussions on promoting the Egyptian healthcare and pharmaceutical industries.
Abdel Ghaffar stressed the importance of investment and partnership between the public and private sectors whereby the public will benefit from top-quality services, a ministry statement said on Wednesday.
The minister also relayed a report on the epidemiological situation of Covid-19 across the nation saying that infections were down and that the government had responded “promptly” and “wisely” to the challenges of the pandemic.
More than 45 Egyptian people have received the first shot of the Covid vaccine, and 34 million have been fully vaccinated, the minister said.
Abdel Ghaffar reviewed achievements to date of the Comprehensive Health Insurance Project, which now covers 4 million people in six governorates — Aswan, Ismailia, Luxor, Port Said, South Sinai and Suez.
