Egypt is working to build a more diversified and export-driven economy, with a focus on productive sectors and local manufacturing, Planning and Economic Development Minister Ahmed Rostom said.
Rostom made the remarks on Wednesday during a high-level policy dialogue organised by the Economic Research Forum (ERF) and the Forum for Euro-Mediterranean Institutes of Economic Sciences (FEMISE), in partnership with the ANIMA Investment Network.
The event brought together policymakers and industrial leaders from the Levant and Europe to discuss industrial clusters and regional value chains.
Rostom said Egypt is seeking to boost its role as a regional hub for production, innovation and services, linking Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
He said the government is making use of Egypt’s strategic location, skilled workforce and infrastructure to attract investment and strengthen local industries.
The aim is also to help Egyptian companies expand into regional and global markets, he added.
Rostom highlighted Egypt’s economic growth in recent years and the growing contribution of non-oil manufacturing.
He said the government is expanding industrial complexes, attracting foreign investment and working with major global companies to localise industries.
These efforts aim to increase production and exports and make productive sectors a bigger driver of economic growth, Rostom said.
