Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty and senior officials and members of the Ministry’s Economic Affairs Sector discussed on Monday ways to advance Egypt’s foreign policy priorities.

Abdelatty highlighted the sector’s role in supporting the Egyptian economy, promoting investment, expanding export markets and supporting industrial localisation in line with the state’s economic and development priorities.

He called for intensifying Egypt’s engagement with international and regional economic and financial institutions and advancing its priorities in development and international financing.

Abdelatty, who serves as Egypt’s governor at several international institutions, including the World Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the New Development Bank of BRICS, said this would help mobilise concessional financing, attract investment and support national development projects.

The minister also highlighted growing challenges facing the region, particularly declining concessional financing for developing countries.

The chief diplomat stressed the need for stronger cooperation among developing nations to promote a fairer approach to the global debt crisis, including expanded debt restructuring and relief mechanisms.

Abdelatty further called for closer coordination with relevant ministries and national institutions to identify economic, trade and development priorities, remove obstacles to investment and use Egyptian embassies abroad to promote investment opportunities.

The meeting also addressed renewable energy, Egypt’s role as a regional energy, trade and logistics hub, and food security.
