Egypt’s economic reform, which achieved positive growth and financial stability, topped the agenda of a high-level meeting on Sunday.
Egyptian Minister of International Co-operation Rania el-Mashat was in Singapore for the Bloomberg Forum for New Economies when she met with Singapore Trade and Industry Minister Gan Kim Yong.
The Egyptian government is determined to complete the economic structural reform programme to promote comprehensive and sustainable growth, and to localise industry in many key areas, el-Mashat said.
She hailed the role of the private sector as a key partner in the sustainable development agenda.
El-Mashat called on private sector companies in Singapore to invest in pharmaceutical industries and artificial intelligence in Egypt.
Egypt has high ambitions in the manufacture and export of medicines and vaccines to African and European countries, el-Mashat added.
The Egyptian International Co-operation minister also met Singapore Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development Grace Futo discuss international efforts to attain sustainable development goals and take advantage of future opportunities for co-operation.
Egypt has expertise in matching development finance with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which enhanced the principles of transparency and governance in setting future priorities during the implementation of partnerships and supporting the country’s efforts to achieve the UN 2030 Agenda, el-Mashat said. El-Mashat also spoke about the world community’s commitment of minimising the effect of climate change and funding support for emerging economies to adapt.
The Singaporean minister expressed hope to work with Egypt to boost sustainable development efforts and enhance the private sector’s participation in this regard.
The Bloomberg Forum for New Economies was held in Singapore on 16-19 November.
The forum discussed international economic issues and joint visions on confronting current challenges facing both developed and emerging economies.
More than 750 senior economists and economic policy makers took part in the forum, including Chinese Vice President Wang Qishan; US Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo; Singapore’s Minister for Trade and Industry, Gan Kim Yong; Rwanda’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Uzziel Ndagijimana; Tanzania’s Vice President, Philip Mpmango; President of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank(AIIB), Jin Liqun; and the Founder of Bloomberg LP, Michael R. Bloomberg.
