Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, received on Monday Singapore’s Minister of State in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Home Affairs, Zhulkarnain Abdul Rahim, to discuss ways of further strengthening bilateral relations and exchanging views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
At the outset of the meeting, Minister Abdelatty welcomed the positive trajectory and growing momentum in bilateral relations, particularly following the Singaporean President’s visit to Egypt in September 2025.
He also stressed the importance of following up on the outcomes of the visit, including the agreements and memoranda of understanding concluded, and exploring proposals to expand co-operation across various sectors ahead of the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Singapore next year.
The foreign minister highlighted the promising opportunities for localising priority industries in Egypt, inviting Singaporean companies to expand their investments and benefit from the Egyptian economy’s competitive advantages, particularly the incentives and facilities available within the Suez Canal Economic Zone.
Abdelatty also underscored the importance of further developing institutional relations between Egypt and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), given Egypt’s close ties with its member states.
He noted that Egypt was among the first Arab and African countries to sign the Treaty of Amity and Co-operation with ASEAN in 2016, expressing Egypt’s aspiration to advance its relationship with the association to the level of “Sectoral Dialogue Partner” and thereby open broader avenues for co-operation across a range of fields.
The discussions also addressed regional and international developments of mutual concern, particularly the Palestinian cause.
In this context, Minister Abdelatty stressed the need to move to the second phase of President Trump’s peace plan, including an Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, ensuring full and sustainable humanitarian access, supporting early recovery and reconstruction, and empowering the National Committee for the Management of Gaza in preparation for the Palestinian Authority to resume its full responsibilities in both Gaza and the West Bank.
For his part, the Singaporean minister expressed his country’s appreciation for Egypt’s tireless efforts to consolidate the ceasefire, implement the understandings of the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement and advance the roadmap.
He also commended Egypt’s pivotal role in facilitating the delivery of humanitarian and relief assistance to the Gaza Strip.
