Minister of Industry Khaled Hashem chaired the first meeting of the industrial product preference committee on Tuesday. He outlined a roadmap to reactivate and develop the system favouring local-made products in government contracts.
Hashem said the new phase would go beyond enforcing the 2015 law to creating a more effective, transparent and measurable framework that supports deeper local manufacturing, higher added value and stronger industrial competitiveness.
He said the ministry would establish an integrated database linking industrial companies, products and local-content certificates with government procurement systems, enabling faster electronic verification and stronger oversight.
The minister also announced plans to introduce a “Qeema” (Value) certificate to assess industrial firms and link incentives to their performance in increasing local content, developing suppliers, adopting technology and boosting domestic value added.
