Minister of State for Military Production Salah Gomblatt received on Monday Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Egypt Kim Wan-jong and his accompanying delegation to discuss opportunities for expanding bilateral co-operation in manufacturing and technology.

Welcoming the Ambassador on the occasion of assuming his duties in Cairo, Minister Gomblatt lauded the longstanding and steadily developing relations between Egypt and Korea, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to strengthening industrial partnerships that serve the mutual interests of both countries.

During the meeting, the minister reviewed the advanced manufacturing and technological capabilities of the ministry’s affiliated companies and production units, highlighting the modernisation programmes that have enhanced their productivity and competitiveness.

He explained that, in line with the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, the ministry is working to localise advanced industrial technologies, deepen local manufacturing, expand co-operation with the private sector and establish strategic partnerships with leading international companies to support national industry, reduce imports, increase the added value of Egyptian products and contribute to sustainable development.

Minister Gomblatt reaffirmed that the ministry’s primary mission is to meet the Armed Forces’ requirements for weapons, ammunition, military equipment and advanced electronic systems, while maximising surplus production capacity through the manufacture of high-quality civilian products and participation in national development projects.

He emphasised the ministry’s aspiration to build sustainable industrial and technological partnerships with South Korean counterparts that promote technology transfer and localisation, noting that the K9A1EGY self-propelled artillery system project represents a successful model of bilateral industrial co-operation and mutual trust.

The minister also stressed the importance of developing human capital by enhancing digital skills, innovation, problem-solving capabilities and the effective utilisation of artificial intelligence technologies.

For his part, Ambassador Kim reaffirmed Seoul’s commitment to expanding co-operation with Egypt. He commended the ministry’s advanced manufacturing and technical capabilities and its leading role in localising modern technologies.
