Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptians Abroad Dr Badr Abdel-Aati participated on Wednesday in the fifth R4 ministerial meeting alongside Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan Muhammad Ishaq Dar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye Hakan Fidan, and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, on the sidelines of the ministerial meeting on Jerusalem in Amman.

During the meeting, the ministers reviewed the latest regional developments amid the ongoing military escalation and discussed efforts to reduce tensions and restore stability, with particular focus on the situation in the Strait of Hormuz.

They stressed the importance of safeguarding freedom of navigation through the Strait, describing it as essential to global economic stability and the security of international trade.

The meeting also underscored the importance of returning to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the United States and Iran on 18 June 2016, while supporting efforts to reach a sustainable agreement that enhances regional security and stability and prevents further escalation.

The ministers reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian cause, stressing that the establishment of an independent Palestinian state and an end to the occupation remain indispensable foundations for achieving a just and comprehensive peace and should continue to be a shared objective of the international community.

Discussions also focused on strengthening co-operation and coordination among the four countries within the R4 framework.

The ministers reviewed the future of regional security, the Quartet’s operational mechanisms and ways to enhance its effectiveness, including increasing the frequency of meetings at various levels to ensure continued consultation and coordination on regional issues of common interest.
