Egypt’s Nuclear and Radiological Regulatory Authority (ENRRA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA) on Wednesday on the sidelines of the 70th General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.
The agreement was signed by ENRRA Chairman Hany Khedr and RURA Director General Rugigana Evariste. It aims to strengthen bilateral co-operation, promote the exchange of expertise in nuclear and radiological regulation, help both sides address current and future regulatory challenges, and support the development of regulatory capabilities.
Highlighting that co-operation with African countries remains a priority for ENRRA, Khedr stressed Egypt’s keenness to share its regulatory experience and expertise with its continental counterparts. He added that stronger co-operation among African regulatory bodies will build national and regional capacities in nuclear and radiological safety while supporting the peaceful uses of nuclear energy.
Following the signing, the Rwandan delegation expressed appreciation for Egypt’s continued support, with both sides agreeing to begin drafting an action plan to implement the MoU.
The agreement reflects ENRRA’s broader commitment to expanding partnerships with African regulatory bodies and supporting the safe, secure, and peaceful use of nuclear and radiological technologies across the continent.
