Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, reviewed progress on the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant project, including security preparations ahead of the planned arrival of nuclear fuel.

During a meeting on Tuesday with Nuclear Power Plants Authority Chairman Sherif Helmy and senior ministry officials, Esmat examined developments in the project’s physical protection plan, security infrastructure and the dedicated security city being established at the site.

Officials presented updates on security measures being implemented in coordination with relevant authorities, including the use of advanced technologies for internal and external protection, as well as specialised training programmes for personnel responsible for plant operations and security.

The meeting also reviewed progress in construction works, measures taken to accelerate execution in cooperation with the Russian side, and adherence to the project’s timetable.

Esmat stressed that work on the El Dabaa Nuclear Power Plant is proceeding according to schedule, with all Egyptian and Russian stakeholders committed to completing the project’s phases on time and preparing for its connection to the national electricity grid.

He described the project as a symbol of the strong strategic partnership between Egypt and Russia and highlighted its importance within Egypt’s peaceful nuclear energy programme.

The minister added that the plant is a key component of Egypt’s energy strategy, which aims to diversify electricity generation sources, expand the use of clean and renewable energy, and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
