Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation, and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdelatty, has reaffirmed Egypt’s rejection of unilateral Israeli measures in occupied East Jerusalem, stressing that the city’s final status cannot be determined through faits accomplis.
Speaking at a meeting of the Arab Ministerial Committee tasked with international action against illegal Israeli policies in Jerusalem, held on the sidelines of the 166th session of the Arab League Ministerial Council in Cairo, Abdelatty stressed that East Jerusalem is occupied Palestinian territory.
He warned against any attempt to alter the historical and legal status quo at Jerusalem’s holy sites, particularly the Haram al-Sharif and Al-Aqsa Mosque, including through their temporal or spatial division.
Abdelatty also stressed the need to protect Islamic and Christian holy sites and guarantee freedom of worship and access.
He reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for the Hashemite custodianship and Jordan’s role in preserving the status quo.
The foreign minister condemned settlement construction, land confiscation, house demolitions, forced displacement and the isolation of East Jerusalem from its Palestinian surroundings, as well as the E1 settlement project, which threatens Palestinian territorial contiguity.
He also condemned the continued targeting of UNRWA, its institutions and staff, calling for international protection of the agency and the fulfilment of its mandate.
He urged countries planning to relocate their embassies to Jerusalem to reconsider their plans, citing international law.
Minister Abdelatty called for intensified Arab and international action against settlement construction, annexation, land confiscation, demolitions and forced displacement.
He warned of continued settlement expansion, settler violence and measures undermining the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank.
He reiterated Egypt’s categorical rejection of any displacement plans affecting Gaza, the West Bank or East Jerusalem.
Egypt continues to work with mediators to advance the second phase of President Trump’s plan in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 2803, while stressing the importance of maintaining the ceasefire, ensuring humanitarian and early-recovery access, and supporting the Palestinian Authority as the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
