Egypt reaffirmed full solidarity with Venezuela following the two earthquakes that has recently struck the country and caused human and material losses.

During a phone call with his Venezuelan counterpart, Félix Plasencia, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati stressed that the Egyptian humanitarian aid, which arrived in Venezuela on Monday, as per the directives of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, reflects Egypt’s commitment to standing by the Venezuelan people during this critical humanitarian situation.

The assistance also demonstrates the depth of the historic ties between the two countries, which have lasted for more than 75 years, Minister Abdel-Aati was quoted as saying by a ministry press release.

Meanwhile, Minister Abdel-Aati congratulated Plasencia on assuming his new post and conveyed President Abdel Fattah El Sisi’s greetings to Venezuelan President Delcy Rodríguez.

Egypt will co-ordinate with the Venezuela to monitor the humanitarian needs over the coming period and assess what additional support could be provided, contributing to Venezuela’s efforts to overcome the aftermath of the disaster, Abdel-Aati noted

The two ministers also affirmed their keenness to carry on with intensifying bilateral co-operation and further develop relations between the two countries across various fields, reflecting the depth of the historic ties between their peoples.

The Egyptian chief diplomat pointed to Egypt’s keenness to expand co-operation, particularly in the economic and investment sectors.

He also stressed Egypt’s readiness to contribute to reconstruction efforts following the two earthquakes by drawing on the extensive expertise of Egyptian companies in implementing infrastructure and reconstruction projects.

In the meantime, the phone call addressed regional and international developments. Abdel-Aati briefed Plasencia on Egypt’s intensive efforts and contacts aimed at de-escalating tensions in the Middle East and promoting political and diplomatic solutions to regional crises.

For his part, the Venezuelan top diplomat reviewed developments in Latin America.

The two ministers exchanged views and assessments on developments in their respective regions, stressing that there are no military solutions to conflicts and crises and that dialogue and diplomatic means remain the only path to achieving security and stability.

The Venezuelan foreign minister expressed his deep appreciation for the Egyptian humanitarian assistance, commending Egypt’s supportive position and its solidarity with the Venezuelan people in confronting the repercussions of the two earthquakes.
