Egypt has successfully recovered an ancient gold mummy mask from Switzerland as part of ongoing efforts to retrieve antiquities that were illegally removed from the country.
The Egyptian Embassy in Bern co-ordinated with Swiss authorities to recover the artifact, according to a statement released by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday.
Egyptian Ambassador Mohamed Negm received the gold mask on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates.
The recovery reflects growing cooperation between Egypt and Switzerland in protecting cultural heritage and combating the illicit trafficking of antiquities.
The two countries are working to strengthen coordination and exchange expertise to counter the smuggling and illegal trade of archaeological artifacts and protect Egypt’s cultural and historical heritage from exploitation and illicit trafficking.
