Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, announced that Egypt’s total agricultural exports have reached approximately 7.5 million tons so far this year—an increase of about 650,000 tons compared to the same period last year.

These figures are based on a report received by the minister from Mohamed El-Mansy, Head of the Central Administration for Agricultural Quarantine, highlighting the progress of Egyptian agricultural exports to date.

The report showed that the list of agricultural exports was topped by citrus fruits with over 1.9 million tons, while fresh potatoes come second with more than 1.3 million tons.

The list also included beans, both fresh and dry, sweet potatoes, onions, grapes, mangoes, fresh tomatoes, pomegranates, fresh garlic, fresh strawberries, and guavas.

Farouk emphasized that this continued growth in agricultural exports reflects the ongoing development in the agricultural sector and its competitive strength in global markets.

He reaffirmed the Egyptian government’s commitment to further developing this vital sector to enhance its competitiveness, open new international markets, and adhere to the highest quality standards to ensure access to markets worldwide.

He added that Egypt now exports more than 405 agricultural products to over 167 countries around the world and continues to open new markets. Notably, the South African market was recently opened to Egyptian pomegranates, and the Philippine market was opened for the first time to Egyptian fresh onions and garlic.

Additionally, after years of negotiations, Egypt successfully opened the Mexican market to hibiscus exports.

Venezuela also opened its market to all types of Egyptian citrus, including grapefruit, lemons, mandarins, and more.

Farouk stated that this success is the result of the joint efforts of farmers, producers, exporters, and regulatory authorities, topped by the Egyptian Agricultural Quarantine, Agriculture Ministry-affiliated certified laboratories, and fruitful international agricultural relations.

He noted that the Ministry will continue to provide the necessary support to enhance agricultural production and boost exports, thereby contributing to strengthening the national economy and achieving food security.
