Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptian Expatriates Badr Abdelatty received UN Special Representative for Libya Hanna Tetteh on Wednesday.
The meeting discussed the latest political and security developments in Libya and efforts to advance the political process under the UN-backed roadmap.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Nader Zaki said Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for UN efforts to reach a comprehensive Libyan-Libyan political settlement.
He stressed that the political process must remain Libyan-led and Libyan-owned. He also underlined the importance of holding presidential and parliamentary elections simultaneously, ending transitional phases and unifying Libya’s state institutions.
Abdelatty stressed that these efforts must respect Libya’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The minister also heard a briefing from the UN envoy on progress in implementing the roadmap and ongoing efforts to address outstanding issues related to the constitutional and legal framework governing the elections.
