Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty met on Monday Annette Weber, the European Union Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, to review regional developments and discuss ways to strengthen security, stability, and development.
Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s firm position in support of Sudan’s security, stability, and territorial integrity, as well as its national institutions. He underlined the need for neighboring countries to respect Sudan’s sovereignty, avoid interference in its internal affairs, and halt all forms of escalation. He called for prioritizing Sudan’s national interest and engaging in a Sudanese-owned process that leads to a comprehensive political settlement, safeguarding sovereignty and meeting the aspirations of the Sudanese people.
The two sides also discussed the wider Horn of Africa region. Abdelatty emphasized the importance of maintaining security and stability, supporting national institutions, and preserving the unity and territorial integrity of states. He reiterated Egypt’s rejection of any policies or actions that undermine Somalia’s sovereignty or threaten regional stability, as well as attempts to impose parallel entities that contradict Somalia’s unity and territorial integrity.
