Egypt’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Aati, participated on Friday in the Second Extraordinary Summit of Troop-Contributing Countries (TCCs) to the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), held in Kampala, Uganda, representing President Abdel Fattah El Sisi. The summit brought together several heads of state, government leaders, ministers, and senior officials.

Addressing the gathering, Abdel-Aati reaffirmed Egypt’s full support for Somalia and its ongoing commitment to African initiatives aimed at bolstering peace and stability. He emphasised that Cairo remains dedicated to supporting Somalia’s state institutions and preserving the country’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, stressing that Somali stability is vital for the security of the Horn of Africa, the Red Sea, and international peace.

Highlighting the importance of sustainable financing for AUSSOM, Abdel-Aati expressed concern over the mission’s current financial challenges. He urged international partners and members of the United Nations Security Council to maintain their financial and logistical backing so the mission can fulfil its mandate. He also stressed the need for continued support for both AUSSOM and the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) to safeguard the nation’s security and unity.

Abdel-Aati noted that achieving lasting peace in Somalia requires a comprehensive strategy, one that combines support for national institutions, economic development, and inclusive political dialogue alongside intensified counter-terrorism operations.

He reiterated Egypt’s firm rejection of any unilateral measures that threaten Somalia’s stability, particularly Israel’s recognition of the self-declared region of Somaliland. Preserving Somalia’s territorial integrity, he added, is fundamental to the success of regional and international counter-terrorism efforts.

Abdel-Aati reaffirmed Egypt’s readiness to assist Somalia through both AUSSOM and bilateral channels, leveraging Egyptian expertise in counter-terrorism, border security, and institutional capacity-building to foster broader regional stability.
