Minister of Justice and Head of the National Committee on International Humanitarian Law Mahmoud Helmy El-Sherif affirmed Egypt’s steadfast position calling for dialogue and peaceful dispute resolution to spare peoples the scourge of wars, based on the belief that respecting the law and protecting rights are the pillars of security, stability, and peace.
El-Sherif made the remarks during the opening of a two-day Arab regional workshop on Saturday. The workshop was organised by the national committee in co-operation with the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Cairo. The event featured representatives from Jordan, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon.
El-Sherif noted that regional developments require redoubled efforts to uphold international humanitarian law guarantees and protect humanity. He reviewed Egypt’s national efforts under President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to support institutional capabilities and international co-operation.
The workshop features expert discussions on current challenges in enforcing international humanitarian law, global commitments to political renewal, national committee achievements from 2025 to 2026, integrating legal frameworks into national legislation, protecting Red Cross and Red Crescent emblems, safeguarding cultural property during armed conflicts, and strengthening academic contributions to promote international humanitarian law.
