Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Egyptian Expatriates, Badr Abdel-Aati, held a phone call on Wednesday, with his Qatari counterpart Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani to discuss efforts to de-escalate regional tensions.

According to Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Tamim Khallaf, the call focused on ways to advance de-escalation amid rapidly evolving regional developments.

Both sides stressed the importance of continuing the negotiation track between the US and Iran, emphasising that political and diplomatic solutions remain the only viable path to resolving the current crisis.

In this context, Minister Abdel-Aati welcomed the US decision to temporarily halt its military operation aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz, in order to allow space for ongoing efforts to reach a final agreement with Iran.

The two ministers expressed hope that all concerned parties would adopt responsible and prudent positions, prioritising diplomacy, negotiations and dialogue as the primary means of addressing all concerns.

both sides agreed to continue joint efforts, in coordination with regional partners and the US, to swiftly reach an agreement on general principles between Washington and Tehran, paving the way for negotiations on implementation.

They also stressed the need to take into account the security concerns of Gulf states and the wider region.
