Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Hani Sweilem took part in the opening session of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The session was attended by Planning Minister Ahmed Rostom, Egypt’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Ihab Awad, along with ministers, senior officials, and representatives of governments and international organizations.
Sweilem underlined Egypt’s commitment to actively engaging in international platforms addressing water, climate, and sustainable development issues. He stressed that Egypt seeks to support these files globally and contribute to accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly amid growing challenges facing the water and climate sectors.
He highlighted the importance of strengthening international cooperation, mobilizing financing, and supporting innovative solutions to advance efforts toward sustainable development.
The High-Level Political Forum is the UN’s main platform for reviewing progress on the Sustainable Development Goals. This year’s session includes an in-depth review of Goal 6, which focuses on ensuring the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.
