Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Omani counterpart, Badr Al-Busaidi, discussed regional developments and efforts to contain current tensions during a telephone call on Saturday, Egypt’s foreign ministry said.
The ministers exchanged views on ways to restore calm and stability in the region, the ministry said in a statement.
Abdelatty, who is also minister of international co-operation and Egyptian expatriates, stressed the priority of halting escalation and avoiding steps that could fuel tensions or threaten regional security and stability.
He said diplomatic efforts should be given space as the best means of addressing the roots of the crisis.
He also underscored the importance of resuming negotiations between the United States and Iran in line with the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, and building on it as a framework for resolving outstanding issues through dialogue and negotiations.
The call also touched on developments in the Strait of Hormuz and their impact on regional security and the global economy.
Both ministers stressed the need to preserve the safety and security of maritime navigation and ensure the uninterrupted flow of trade and energy supplies.
