Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty spoke by phone with his Dutch counterpart, Tom Berendsen, on Monday about bilateral relations, Egypt’s foreign ministry said.
Abdelatty called on Dutch authorities to provide adequate protection for Egypt’s embassy in The Hague, in line with their obligations under the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. He also cited the principle of reciprocity, noting that Egypt protects foreign diplomatic missions on its territory. Berendsen agreed, the ministry said.
Abdelatty also raised the case of an Egyptian citizen arrested by Dutch authorities on Sunday, seeking details about the circumstances and calling for his prompt release.
The two ministers agreed to continue consultations and address outstanding issues to preserve the friendly ties between their countries, the statement said.
