Egypt is making an intensive effort to revive Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, which have been stalled since July, a well-informed security source said.
As Egypt is working with the Palestinian and Israeli sides to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and allow more humanitarian aid into the war-ravaged Palestinian enclave, Hamas insists that the talks should not be fractionated for fear that Israel might resume its aggression after handing over the Israeli captives held by its fighters, the same source told AlQahera News on Saturday.
During their discussions today in Cairo on forming a community support committee to manage Gaza, as part of post-war plans, Fatah and Hamas showed more flexibility about the committee’s establishment proposal, the same source said.
The source revealed that the committee will be affiliated with the Palestinian Authority with its members including independent figures.
These discussions are part of Egypt’s ceaseless efforts to unify Palestinian ranks and alleviate the suffering of Palestinian brethren, the security source noted, highlighting international support for Egypt’s ongoing efforts with the Palestinian and Israeli sides to reach a ceasefire in Gaza and restore calm, despite the unwillingness of one side to positively respond to these efforts.
