Egypt’s Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli stressed the importance of establishing a clear timeline for Egyptian-Libyan co-operation in natural gas, petroleum exploration and refining, electricity interconnection, and fertiliser production.
Madbouli’s remarks came as he received on Thursday Head of the Libya’s Government of National Unity (GNU) Abdel Hamid Dbeibah at the Government Headquarters in New Alamein City.
Senior ministers and officials from both sides attended the meeting.
Premier Madbouli welcomed the Libyan delegation, describing the visit as an important step towards advancing bilateral relations.
He noted that President Abdel Fattah El Sisi had earlier reaffirmed the deep-rooted ties between the two countries and their shared commitment to strengthening cooperation to serve the mutual interests.
He also emphasised the importance of implementing the understandings reached during the presidential meeting, activating the Egyptian-Libyan Joint Committee, and elevating bilateral relations to reflect the historic partnership between the two nations, said the Cabinet Spokesman Counselor Mohamed el-Homosani.
He added that the prime minister highlighted Egypt’s readiness to expand co-operation with Libya in the energy sector, particularly in natural gas, petroleum refining and exploration, while advancing electricity interconnection as part of Egypt’s wider regional energy integration efforts, including projects with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
He also pointed to opportunities for joint cooperation in fertiliser production and called for close coordination between the executive authorities of both countries to translate these initiatives into practical outcomes.
For his part, the Head Government of National Unity Dbeibah reaffirmed Libya’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Egypt, particularly in the energy sector.
He stressed Libya’s keenness to promote joint investments, expand the participation of Egyptian companies in major infrastructure and construction projects, strengthen co-operation in electricity interconnection, petroleum products, natural gas and exploration.
He also proposed organising a joint Egyptian-Libyan business forum alongside company exhibitions in both countries.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Co-operation and Egyptians Expatriates Badr Abdel-Aati emphasised during the meeting, the importance of convening the Egyptian-Libyan Joint Committee at the earliest opportunity, expanding the role of Egyptian companies in Libya’s development projects, supporting the Libyan community in Egypt, and coordinating positions in international forums.
For his part, Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat reviewed prospects for co-operation in electricity interconnection and renewable energy, Homosani said.
He unveiled that Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi and Chairman of Libya’s National Oil Corporation Masoud Suleiman outlined opportunities to deepen collaboration in natural gas, petroleum products, exploration and fertiliser production.
