CAIRO – Egypt’s permanent mission to the United Nations in Geneva launched – in collaboration with the missions of Spain, Sweden, Costa Rica, and Malaysia – new initiative for empowering women economically at international forums.
Egypt’s permanent envoy to the UN Ahmed Ihab Gamal Eddin delivered a statement at the Human Rights Council – in the name of the initiative’s member states – calling on the international community to renew commitment to gender equality and women empowerment, especially at the economic level, the Foreign Ministry said on its Facebook page on Thursday.
The statement highlighted the importance of empowering women to get education, economic resources, opportunities, decent work and salary equivalent to that of males.
The statement said the new initiative seeks to activate women empowerment at multilateral forums, including the Human Rights Council.
The statement urged countries to give due attention to the women empowerment file during the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP27) which is due to be held in Egypt’s Red Sea resort city of Sharm el Sheikh in November.
